Building Rehabilitation & On-Going Maintenance

Due to the very rundown state of these buildings in 1979, all four buildings were given completely new floor plans during the 1980 remodeling period.  Design Coalition, a sustainable and socially-conscious architectural firm located at the time on Willy Street did the major part of the required design work for the project.  Practically everything else throughout the apartments was also replaced at that time, including plumbing, wiring, walls, ceilings, siding, windows, doors, floor coverings, kitchen fixtures, baths, and with new natural oak trim around all windows and doorways throughout the interiors.  The utmost in energy efficiency at the time was provided by wall insulation with high R-values, triple-glazed windows, and caulking.

One of the continuing challenges faced by the co-op is the necessity to maintain these physical systems in as good an operating condition as possible and to provide upgrades as time passes.
